Kumar Mallimarachchi (Chairman) MIH
A graduate in Hotel Management from International School of Tourism in Italy,a life member of the Cornell Society of Hotelmen and a member of Institute of Hospitality(United Kingdom). Former Chairman of Ceylon Hotels Corporation, President of Tourist Hotels Association of Sri Lanka. Serves as the Chairman of the SAARC Tourism Council (Sri Lanka Chapter) and the Tourism Training Centre. Executive Committee member of SAARC Chambers of Commerce & Industry, a Director of Sri Lanka Convention Bureau & a member of Statutory Accounting Standards Committee. Is an experienced hotelier and a tourism industry leader.
After obtaining a Diploma in Hotel Management & Catering he joined Royal Lancaster Hotel in London as an industrial release student in 1979. After a successful stint with Rank Hotels Group UK he returned to Sri Lanka & joined Ceylon Hotels Corporation (CHC) as Airport Catering Manager in 1981. He became the Assistant General Manager operations in 1986 & General Manager in 1988.
He was appointed Chairman of Ceylon Hotels Corporation in 1990. He was also appointed as Chairman of United Hotels, Associated Hotels Co. and Director of Hotel Ceylon Intercontinental, Airline Services limited the general Sales agents for British Airways in Sri Lanka.
He has held numerous honorary positions such as Vice Chairman Tourist Hotels Association (THASL) from 1992 to 1996,Vice President of THASL from 1998 to 2001 became President of THASL in 2001 to 2003.
As the president of THASL he played a significant role in rebuilding confidence in the industry after Colombo Airport attack & closure in 2001.
He is also the Chairman of SAARC Tourism Council Sri Lanka chapter in addition to being an Executive Committee member of the SAARC Chambers of Commerce & Industry. He is a senior council member of Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry of Sri Lanka.
He is a member of Statutory Accounting Standards Committee of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka & member of Hotel Classification Committee of the Sri Lanka Tourist Board since 2001Top Wijitha Perera
Wijitha Perera is a B Sc. (Engineering) Honours graduate from the University of Peradeniya.. He subsequently obtained a Certifacte in Management Techniques from the University of Amherst, Massachussetes. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka, a Member of the Institute of Production Engineers, and a Member of ASHRAE - USA.
After starting his carrier in the Industrial Sector, he entered the HVAC field and gathered specialized knowledge and experience ending up as the Manager of the AC & R division of Walker Sons & Co. Ltd., who were the local agents for Carrier.
He later joined the Hotel Industry and made a very significant contribution. Winning of the Professor Mohan Munasinghe Award for Energy Conservation for Galadari Hotel, and obtaining the LEEDs certification – Bronze Medal for Kandalama Hotel, which incidentally was the first Hotel and the First Building outside the US to achieve this, are some of the major achievements.
Perera has proven himself to be a very capable designer of Building Services. Winning of the RICS award for Building Conservation – 2000 for the M & E services designs for the Tea Factory, is a significant achievement. He is, at present, one of the leading M & E services Designers in the country. He also serves as an Engineering Consultant to a number of Hotels both individual and groups.
In addition to being a Building Services consultant, Perera has proved to be a very competent Kitchen and Laundry Designer for Hotels and Hospitals. He has designed many Hotel kitchens teaming up with a F & B specialist. Some of the Kitchens designed by him are Tea Factory and Waters Edge in Sri Lanka, Club Rannalhi & Meedhupparu Hotels in the Maldives, and Madhurai Resort Hotel in India.
He has also been associated with many projects involved in Energy Conservation on a National Level. He was a member of the committee formulating the ‘Energy Efficient Building Code’, a project undertaken by the Ceylon Electricity Board.
He is currently serving as the Chairman of The Tourist Hotels Classification Committee which is responsible for classifying of Hotels and ensuring that quality standards are maintained.
